Performers to the Rescue: Unsung Hera

We’re excited to welcome Unsung Hera back to perform with us on February 18. This sassy songstress charmed audiences in our Halloween and holiday shows and now her awesome voice and luminous presence will grace the stage at the Met Room for Unleashed: Pilots, Puppies and Pasties.

Unsung Hera

As you may know, this show is aimed at raising money and awareness for Pilots to the Rescue, an organization that saves animals from euthanasia. We asked some of the performers to share their rescue stories.

Unsung Hera writes:

Attached is a pic of my two childhood dogs with me, both rescues.

A little about them: Princess was on her last day at the pound when she became my family’s favorite member when I was five. In eighth grade, Zoey came for a trial stay. My loyalties were with Princess, so I protested. But by the end of the weekend, there was no way Zoey was going back. She would never be thrown against a wall after a bad day at work again.
Princess was the sweetest soul who ever lived. She wagged her whole body when she was happy. Zoey knew that every person she met loved her, and would climb onto anybody’s lap to be pet. She also knew that people loved her even MORE in clothes, so she LOVED wearing her little pink dress.

Okay, we’re not heading for the Great White Way just yet, but we WERE listed on Broadway World’s website. That’s pretty exciting, no?

Our next show, on Feb. 18, will benefit Pilots to the Rescue, an org that saves pets from euthanasia.

This will be a fun night, because not only will you get to see the sexy and sassy burlesque and boylesque you’re used to, but we will also have singers, glass eaters and a sword swallower (not a euphemism!). It’s going to be the best night ever!

So hurry and buy tickets now because space is limited.

Yay! We can’t wait to see you on the 18th!

How long have you been burlesquing?
I just turned one!

What drew you/draws you to burlesque?
Body Positivity and the supportive community among women, that’s what drew me to it.  Now, fifty-percent of what I do is for me – I’m a performer, it’s who I am.  And I love feeling great about myself on stage, in large part due to this art-form. The other fifty-percent is for whichever women in the audience may be inspired by me.  Other people have been that for me. I’m happy to be that for whoever needs me.

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
I’m a musical theater actress and a yogi. I also work as a model, art model and write musical satire promoting Body Positivity.

Trick or Treat? Please elaborate.
In first grade I made a sweatshirt with TONS of glitter paint and an iron-on teddy bear witch that said “I AM THE TREAT” – I’ll stick with that!

Come see Unsung Hera and the rest of our treats at The Triad on October 29. Tickets.
