Rock and roll with Shimmy LeCoeur

Rock and roll with Shimmy LeCoeur

The ’50s was a transformational decade, taking us from war and depression to a more fun, forward-looking youth culture that would dominate the second half of the 20th century. Nothing illustrates that more than the rise of rock and roll. And who better to shake, rattle and roll for you than Shimmy LeCoeur?

1. What is your favorite thing about the ’50s?

My favorite thing is how the music changed and transformed a generation to rock’n’roll lovers. It was an awakening of the senses and showed just how music could change the world.

2. If you could have drinks/dinner with any person from that era, real or fictional, who would it be and why?

I’d love to have dinner with Elvis Presley and have him sing for me. Wouldn’t it be amazing g to really see how he feels about changing music and becoming the real king of rock’n’roll?

It would indeed!

Come see Shimmy up close and personal on April 22 for Decadent: 100 Years of Burlesque. Tickets are ON SALE for this fantastic journey to the ’50s and beyond, so buy yours today!

We are beyond excited for Decadent, our voyage through 100 years of burlesque, on April 22, and we are even more excited to welcome back Dandy Dillinger, who performed with us in our very first show (in 2015!).

Dandy, “burlesque’s ‘man’ about town,” is the perfect choice to represent the 1920s because of her classic, vintage look. She even has the awards to back up her cred, having been voted Miss Art Deco by the Art Deco Society of NY last year.

She is just one of the fabulous performers who will be on hand to send you back in time at the Triad on April 22. Tickets will be on sale soon, so be sure to check back often.

We are excited to welcome Tina Tassels back as our host for Unleashed: Pilots, Puppies and Pasties. Tina bills herself as a “Tassel Twirler, Plus Size Pinup, Producer, Emcee, Spreader of Self-Love,” and we couldn’t be more excited to have her happy, shiny energy light up the Met Room stage on Feb. 18.

Tina does not have a puppy, but says if she ever gets one, it will be a rescue, because “they are the most interesting choice.” We agree completely! Which is why proceeds for this show will benefit Pilots to the Rescue, an organization that saves animals from euthanasia by rescuing them from kill-shelters and delivering them to loving homes that give them a second chance. It promises to be a great night, so hurry and get your tickets!

Ruby Mechant

LFF Co-founder and producer Ruby Mechant is passionate about many things, but rescue animals in particular. Here are some of her “babies” and how they came to be part of her sparkly universe.

In her own words:

Cleo reclines on the beach

My family became pit bull aficionados by mistake. We really didn’t know we were picking up at the shelter Cleo, our very first pit. She lived a very long and happy life chasing cats and squirrels in Lake Como.

Asia with Ruby

Asia was a rescue too. Her previous family left her at the shelter at the age of two because they were having a baby and they said she was “too much to handle.” Well, if you don’t know how to train a dog even the tiniest chihuahua can become too much.

The newest edition – Bailey

As to the cat side, here in NYC you can say that Bailey aka ‘Queen B’ (not because of Beyonce, but because the little snitch knows she is beautiful), will take possession of my apartment and begin her residency on Feb 14th. She was abandoned by her previous family because they moved to a building that does not allow pets – so sure just get rid of your cat. Because of that she is a tad temperamental and she has to be the only cat in the house. It’s gonna be a slow journey with her but it’s not the first time that the rescue I volunteer has given me divas. I’m sure she will get used to feather boas and sparkly costumes soon!

Ruby and the rest of the LFF team are working hard behind the scenes to make Unleashed: Pilots, Puppies and Pasties an amazing show to benefit an amazing organization. Pilots to the Rescue is dedicated to making sure animals like Cleo, Asia and Bailey find their very own Ruby. Won’t you join us on February 18 at the Met Room to support them? Details below.

Performers to the Rescue: Unsung Hera

We’re excited to welcome Unsung Hera back to perform with us on February 18. This sassy songstress charmed audiences in our Halloween and holiday shows and now her awesome voice and luminous presence will grace the stage at the Met Room for Unleashed: Pilots, Puppies and Pasties.

Unsung Hera

As you may know, this show is aimed at raising money and awareness for Pilots to the Rescue, an organization that saves animals from euthanasia. We asked some of the performers to share their rescue stories.

Unsung Hera writes:

Attached is a pic of my two childhood dogs with me, both rescues.

A little about them: Princess was on her last day at the pound when she became my family’s favorite member when I was five. In eighth grade, Zoey came for a trial stay. My loyalties were with Princess, so I protested. But by the end of the weekend, there was no way Zoey was going back. She would never be thrown against a wall after a bad day at work again.
Princess was the sweetest soul who ever lived. She wagged her whole body when she was happy. Zoey knew that every person she met loved her, and would climb onto anybody’s lap to be pet. She also knew that people loved her even MORE in clothes, so she LOVED wearing her little pink dress.

Making the Magic Happen: Nelson Lugo

Making the Magic Happen: Nelson Lugo

Feb. 18 is going to be a magical night for many reasons, not the least of which because we have an actual magician joining us:

Nelson Lugo, ‘The Charming Trickster,’ is a magician, raconteur, former ringmaster, and burgeoning grifter. Known for heartfelt illusions and wry vaudevillian honesty he is a noted and celebrated performer in the underground NYC cabaret scene. Descended from a genuine Santeria, Nelson Lugo’s singular magical style showcases classic sleight of hand with a nod to the pop culture that has shaped him.

On Broadway

Okay, we’re not heading for the Great White Way just yet, but we WERE listed on Broadway World’s website. That’s pretty exciting, no?

Our next show, on Feb. 18, will benefit Pilots to the Rescue, an org that saves pets from euthanasia.

This will be a fun night, because not only will you get to see the sexy and sassy burlesque and boylesque you’re used to, but we will also have singers, glass eaters and a sword swallower (not a euphemism!). It’s going to be the best night ever!

So hurry and buy tickets now because space is limited.

Yay! We can’t wait to see you on the 18th!
