La Rubia Daredoll

Hello friends!

Our end-of-summer show Forbidden Eden will be here before you know it. Hellz Kitten sat down with one of our virgins, La Rubia Daredoll, for a little Q&A.

Social Media/website:
Not yet, but stay tuned!

How long have you been burlesquing?
I’ve been burlesquing for less than a year. Unless you want to count when I entertained people by wiggling to the Nair “Short Shorts” commercial as a kid.

What drew you/draws you to burlesque?
Burlesque allows me to indulge in dance and performance. But mostly, I love the community and friendships I’ve found along the way. There are so many amazing, encouraging, and talented people in the burlesque world.

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
I find so many ways to keep busy! I pole dance, belly dance, and take aerial silk classes. I’m learning about emergency response and I’m active in my community. I’m a writer with a passion for motorcycles. All fun things that make me a daredoll!

What is your biggest temptation?
I can’t resist Latin food and good salsa music! Muy Caliente!

If you were a forbidden fruit, what would you be and why? The tempting, seductive pomegranate. A forbidden fruit of abundance and sensuality. Just a small taste and you’re snared.

Join us at The Triad on August 27 to see La Rubia and the rest of our juicy daredolls. Tickets.

mollybystrikerIt’s almost Saturday which also means it’s almost showtime! One of the performers joining us this weekend is Molly Manhattan, who will draw you into her circle and take you for a spin.

How long have you been burlesquing?
In my brain, several years.
In actuality, about two months!

What drew you/draws you to burlesque?
The seductive circle also known as the hula hoop led me here. I’ve always loved the glamorous costuming and creativity of burlesque, so fusing that with my passion for hoop dance has been a fun exploration.

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
I perform with the hoop, I teach hoop dance, I rally the NYC hoop community for special events like the New York Dance Parade, I waltz through parties looking fabulous, and I daydream about being a mermaid. In my nine-to-five life, I am a sex educator.

Who is your dream Valentine?
Peter Griffin. Just kidding! A hilarious, irreverent man like Russell Brand or Joe Rogan are my kind of dreamboats.

Come see Molly THIS SATURDAY at The Triad. Tickets are still available but selling out fast!

xoxo,
HK

How long have you been burlesquing?
More than six blissful glitter years…but according to recovered VHS family videos, I’ve been documented lifting my dresses since I was four.

What drew you/draws you to burlesque?
Burlesque allows me to be me. I would steal the concept from Scarlett James, that burlesque allows you to play any character and live out every fantasy your heart desires. I would take it even further and say it’s a platform for acceptance of oneself, true self-love expressed on stage or in your private space. You in your purest form. It takes courage, confidence and a willingness to share what makes you most vulnerable. I love watching all the performers glow on stage, whether it’s a first-timer or the daily showstoppers. Stories and emotions unfold and beauty comes in every form. Burlesque is my happy space.

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
I love trying out all types of dance classes (which inspire future numbers), exploring new places (I’m an avid scuba diver), and spending downtime pussy power hours cuddling with my two favorite felines, Bagel and Jojo. And during football season, you can find me every weekend at Daddy-O’s cheering on my Steelers!

Who is your dream Valentine?
Channing Tatum, please.

Candy is one of the badass beauties set to warm up your weekend next Saturday at The Triad. Hurry and get your tickets before they sell out!

xoxo,
Hellz Kitten

How long have you been burlesquing? Four years

What drew you/draws you to burlesque?
I have always been curious about burlesque, but I didn’t look for information because I was sure I would lose my mind for it… I could just feel it! During my honeymoon, on our way to Bangkok I decided to watch the movie Burlesque. I know that this movie doesn’t show the reality of burlesque, but in that moment I was fascinated and enchanted by the sparkling costumes and the magic of the stage. We were landing just as the movie finished and I looked at my husband and said, “When we get back home, I will do this.” That is how it started for me.

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
I work as a receptionist in a 50s/60s-style Party Hostel in Rimini, Italy.

Who is your dream Valentine?
My dream Valentine is in Italy: my husband Alberto. But if I could choose a second Valentine, it would be my audience!

Come see Freaky and a host of hotties at The Triad on Saturday, February 13. Tickets available here.

We can’t wait to see you!

xoxo,
Hellz Kitten

How long have you been burlesquing?
3 years

What drew/draws you to burlesque?
I’ve always been the reserved one, content to fly under the radar. At the same time, I had a secret side that wanted to be in the spotlight. A Groupon led me to The Pink Chardonnays, and they got me onstage. I eventually built up the courage to perform a solo and it was exhilarating. Burlesque has helped me in other areas, too. I may not be ready to audition for a reality show, but I’m not hiding in the shadows anymore.

HellK_Betty

Who or what would you say are your burlesque influences?
I’m obsessed with the 1960s so I like to think of my burlesque persona as if Betty Draper from Mad Men had run away to become a go-go dancer in L.A.

What kind of femme fatale are you and why?
Definitely an old-school Bond girl! A sex kitten who kicks ass, takes names, and doesn’t mind getting a little blood on her boots.

What does it mean to be badass?
To have the courage to be authentic on the stage, on the page and in real life. (I am still working on this.)

Besides performer, what would you say is your role as part of the FF?
Writer, editor, designer, website maintainer.

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
I work in cable news as a writer. I’m also a freelance writer and blogger. In my free time, I watch a lot of Red Sox baseball, drink a lot of wine and take as many vacations as I can.

What would you like to get out of this endeavor (the Femmes Fatales)?
I love that all of us are using our individual talents to come together and create something awesome that wasn’t there before. I want to grow as a performer, a writer and as a person. I would also like to be able to give something back. Everyone should have the opportunity to shine on stage!

What drew/draws you to burlesque?
Burlesque is one of the only dance styles I’ve found that encourages you to be comfortable in your own skin and at peace with your body, and enables your own unique traits to shine through everything you do. It’s about the tease, the thrill of the chase, rather than the grand finale or final curtain drop.

What does it mean to be badass?
The ability to not feel obligated to filter who you are.

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
I’m in a committed relationship with chocolate pastries; I just love to eat. I also enjoy distance running, reading, drawing, sewing, and venturing around Manhattan. The big city is strangely relaxing to me.

Anything you’d like to add?
I hope this new experience will help me tear down my walls of anxiety and inhibitions and help me become a more confident, fearless person in the future.

Aradia

Name: Aradia

Hometown: Minnesota

What drew/draws you to burlesque?
I enjoy dance and wanted to learn a form where I own my sexuality.

What does it mean to be badass?
Badass means doing things because you want to do them despite criticism.

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
When I am not burlesquing, I balance many roles- I am a creative arts therapist, a yoga instructor, Tarot reader, and sex educator. I also love to play in the park with my Dingo-dog, and my boyfriend.

Anything you’d like to add?
I am very grateful to be part of this show.

Luna

Name: Luna Rapture

Hometown: New York

What drew/draws you to burlesque?
Burlesque is a creative outlet that encourages expressing who you are and being comfortable with your body. It’s beautiful, empowering, and freaking fun as hell.

What does it mean to be badass?
It’s someone who carves their own path, lives life how they choose, regardless of the social norms expected of them.

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
I’m a dentist, which is a pretty demanding job… But when I don’t have my hand in people’s mouths, I spend my time watching all types of live music, playing the bass, cooking, reading, and exploring the city.

Anything you’d like to add?
This has been an amazing experience to say the least, and I’m grateful to be a part of it.

Come meet Iren Ayran, Aradia, Luna Rapture and the rest of the ladies at Les Femmes Fatales Give Thanks – our debut show – November 20 @ 9 PM, Triad Theater, 158 W. 72 St. 212.362.2590

How long have you been burlesquing?
I started dancing with the Pink Chardonnays in 2013.

What drew/draws you to burlesque?
In 2010, I started pole dancing and it completely changed my life. Two years later, we had to do a burlesque routine as part of a pole assignment, and I fell in love. I asked my instructor about performing with a burlesque troupe and after a bit of research she discovered Burlesque Bikini Bootcamp and the Pink Chardonnays. Now burlesque is in my soul! I love the tease and interacting with the audience. I especially love coming up with new routines and costumes.

Who or what would you say are your burlesque influences?
I am inspired by NYC performers Apathy Angel and Tina Tassels. I see them backstage in sweat pants, rolling their suitcases, just like me. Then they transform to take the stage and own it. That is what I strive to do–put everything out of my mind to own that stage!luscious_blue

What kind of Femme Fatale are you?
This is tough because I see elements of myself in all the different female archetypes, not just Femme Fatales. If I had to pick I’d say Jessica Rabbit…”I’m not bad, I’m just drawn that way.

What does it mean to be badass?
Badass isn’t about kicking butt and taking names, it’s a state of mind. Walking into a room and being proud of who you are…being able to juggle career, family/friends, interests and still have time for yourself…giving back to the community and helping those in need…all those things are badass!

What is your behind the scenes role with FF?
I’m the go-to person for costume ideas. Need to make a bra with rip-away cups? Want to learn how to make a custom tutu or organza boa? I’m your Femme Fatale.

luscious_boudoir

What do you do when you are not burlesquing?
Senior print production manager. Cake ball maker. Burlesque dancer. Jane of all trades, master of none. Seriously though, I have a home-based baking business that I am trying to bring from part-time to full-time, so I can quit the day job. This takes up most of my time. To keep my sanity in check, I dance and travel as much as I can.

What would you like to get out of this endeavor?
I love the idea of giving back to the community by doing something that I love: dancing.

How long have you been burlesquing?
Almost 5 years

What drew/draws you to burlesque?
After my pole dancing instructor moved to Africa I was lost. I tried a burlesque class through Groupon and after the first show I was hooked. Now, all I crave is the stage. From the day of the show to the 3 minutes and 30 seconds to the final applause and gin & tonic after my performance.

Who or what would you say are your burlesque influences?
I’m definitely more classic with a little twist. I’m not really a neo fan. I want to wear a beautiful sparkly costume, I want to tease. I want to dance, use the beat of the music but most of all, I want a grand finale.

What kind of Femme Fatale are you and why?
Ruby is definitely a badass, the way she comes out with all her attitude and bold personality. I’m the same in real life but I have to deal with people, so I have to tame her.FF_Ruby

What does it mean to be badass?
Being real to yourself and the world, as much as possible; to not adapt to what society expects.

What is your behind the scenes role with FF?
We all make the magic happen, but my part is in production. Recruiting dancers and stage kittens, training virgins (what we call newbies), being the point of contact with the venue, as well as gathering assets. From songs to prop lists to stage set-up–there are hundreds of details to run a show. Luckily I’m a Virgo, details are my detail.

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
My 9 to 5 is as a sales manager for an Italian textile company. They produce bedding, towels and robes for high-end hotels and resorts and I work closely with designers, architects, hotel managers and purchasing directors.

What would you like to get out of this endeavor?
When your love for something grows this much, it’s a natural step to want to do more. Doing it with a group of women who have the same perspective? It’s perfect. It all comes down to doing what makes you happy. Being on stage, creating beautiful shows and inspiring other people–that’s what this journey is all about.

Anything you’d like to add?
Niente.

How long have you been burlesquing?
Since 2011

What drew/draws you to burlesque?
I love how it embraces women of all shapes and sizes. It is an art form that promotes a positive body image, working with what we have and loving ourselves the way it is! For me it is the epitome of girl power.

FF_Cherrybomb

Who or what would you say are your burlesque influences?
I applaud the everyday women who have the courage to get on stage and shake all their womanly assets! We all have star quality, and I love seeing women who never thought they would ever do anything like this, debut their performance and shine like stars in their own right.

What kind of Femme Fatale are you and why?
Tricky question….I see myself more of a Lara Croft, Le Femme Nikita kind of Femme Fatale…one that can hold her own in a room full of testosterone, use her wit and charm to negotiate, one who can throw a mean right hook and a roundhouse kick if need be. I can do that, and have a law degree to boot (don’t mind the pun)!

FF_Corset_Spicy
What does it mean to be badass?
I love being feminine, wearing flowers in my hair, getting all dolled up, feeling pretty and sexy. And I especially love expressing myself onstage as a burlesque dancer. I also love putting on my racing gear and tackling obstacle courses, from jumping over fire logs to crawling under a barbed-wire mud pit! These passions are two sides of the same coin calling on the phenomenal power ingrained in women everywhere to overcome obstacles boldly, with grace and style. That to me is badass!

What is your behind the scenes role with FF?

Uniter. Rallying to bring the ladies together…especially those who expressed their desire to form our own group, makes me our front row cheerleader!

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
I love mud racing and conquering the Spartan races. My mantra: being fit, feminine and fabulous!

What would you like to get out of this endeavor?
Giving back to a charitable cause each time we perform.

Anything you’d like to add?
I would be remiss if I didn’t give a shout out to my darling husband for always supporting me, proudly attending every show, whipping out the sewing machine to fix my costumes and schlepping all my gear after every performance. He is my number one fan!
