I don’t have a social media/website specifically for burlesque yet…hope that’s okay!

How long have you been burlesquing?
I’m a newbie, just performed in my first show on April 1st, but love it so far! I’ve been dancing burlesque for about a year.

What drew you/draws you to burlesque?
Burlesque gives me the chance to step out of my comfort zone and be somebody different than what everyone sees. I like the fact that I can be whoever I want, and it’s helped me embrace my body and love myself more as well.

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
When I’m not burlesquing, I enjoy taking long walks, yoga, and admiring other peoples’ art. I like being lazy and watching YouTube videos too, ha ha.

What is the sexiest thing about summer?
The sexiest thing about summer is that I don’t feel like I have to hide my body. I feel very confined under my clothes in winter.

Come see Trix E. and a school of sexy sirens at The Triad on June 18. Coming from the Mermaid Parade? Show up in your costume for a chance to win prizes! Tickets.

Meet the Flavors: Shimmy LeCoeur

Shimmy LeCoeur

There are less than two weeks until Luscious Lane’s CakeBall Masquerade, a burlesque review featuring some sweet and sexy “flavors.” Luscious Lane sat down with some of the performers who inspired her. Meet Shimmy LeCouer.

LL: How long have you been burlesquing?

I started burlesque dancing four-and-a-half glorious years ago. I was actually taking the Burlesque Bikini Bootcamp class and they offered a workshop for their Christmas show. Sometimes there are funny reasons that bring you to something that becomes such a wonderful part of your life. Regardless, I needed something to step outside my comfort zone and thought, what could do that more than stripping down on stage? It became the best experience of my life.

LL: What drew you/draws you to burlesque?

Not only have I met so many wonderful, amazing women who have become so important in my life, but I have found a side of myself that was hidden and needed to be expressed. I wouldn’t trade my burlesque life for anything.

LL: What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?

During the day I am a nurse. When I started burlesque dancing I was going to nursing school and found ways to dance while studying and working full time. Burlesque was my escape from all the craziness that was my life at the time. So during the day, I take care of people medically. During the night I shimmy into their hearts and give them a glorious jumpstart.

LL: I was inspired by your burlesque name to create a cakeball flavor. Any guesses as to what I have up my sleeve?

I think my burlesque flavor would be sweet but have a sexiness about it. My dances start out sweet but always end with a level of sexiness shimmying across the stage.

Let Shimmy shimmy across the stage and jumpstart YOUR heart. Get your tickets for the CakeBall Masquerade today.

Hurry, they are selling fast!

See you at The Triad on April 16!

Hellz Corner: Q&A with Vixen Valentine

LFF_Feb16_VixenValentine’s Day is almost upon us, so let’s get up close and personal with the appropriately named Vixen Valentine. Vixen will be performing with us Saturday at The Triad. Have you gotten your tickets yet? Hurry, they are going fast!

Name: Vixen Valentine

Social Media/Website:
www.seattlelatenight.com

How long have you been burlesquing?
If we are counting the times I would ransack my mothers makeup, spray every bottle of her perfume on myself, then run around the house in her high heels, the answer is: since I was a little girl. If we are just counting when I started performing burlesque on stage, since 2010.

What drew you/draws you to burlesque?
I have a background in Women’s Studies and Theater and with burlesque I can play in this realm of gender, sexuality, parody, and satire. It is the perfect blend of my educational background with my love of performing.

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
I travel a lot to perform and teach so I am constantly reading as I wait to board a plane or while I’m on a train. When I am not on the road I am creating new routines or working on a project.

Who is your dream Valentine?
Now that would be telling and I can’t give away all of my secrets.

Make Vixen your Valentine this Saturday at our show Love Me If You Dare. Doors open at 9 PM.

LFF_Feb16_Triad_update (4)Love me if you Dare. At the Triad THIS SATURDAY, 9 PM. Hosted byJule Brittannia.  Featuring: Pandora and Candy Applebottom. Special Guests: Freaky Candy and Vixen Valentine. mollybystrikerIt’s almost Saturday which also means it’s almost showtime! One of the performers joining us this weekend is Molly Manhattan, who will draw you into her circle and take you for a spin.

Social Media/Website:

How long have you been burlesquing?
In my brain, several years.
In actuality, about two months!

What drew you/draws you to burlesque?
The seductive circle also known as the hula hoop led me here. I’ve always loved the glamorous costuming and creativity of burlesque, so fusing that with my passion for hoop dance has been a fun exploration.

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
I perform with the hoop, I teach hoop dance, I rally the NYC hoop community for special events like the New York Dance Parade, I waltz through parties looking fabulous, and I daydream about being a mermaid. In my nine-to-five life, I am a sex educator.

Who is your dream Valentine?
Peter Griffin. Just kidding! A hilarious, irreverent man like Russell Brand or Joe Rogan are my kind of dreamboats.

Come see Molly THIS SATURDAY at The Triad. Tickets are still available but selling out fast!

It’s Super Bowl Sunday, which means there is less than a week until our Valentine’s show, Love Me If You Dare. Whether you’re waiting for kick-off, or just waiting for us to kick off our clothes, why not pull up a chair and get to know one of our favorite foxy football fans, Candy Applebottom.

How long have you been burlesquing?
More than six blissful glitter years…but according to recovered VHS family videos, I’ve been documented lifting my dresses since I was four.

What drew you/draws you to burlesque?
Burlesque allows me to be me. I would steal the concept from Scarlett James, that burlesque allows you to play any character and live out every fantasy your heart desires. I would take it even further and say it’s a platform for acceptance of oneself, true self-love expressed on stage or in your private space. You in your purest form. It takes courage, confidence and a willingness to share what makes you most vulnerable. I love watching all the performers glow on stage, whether it’s a first-timer or the daily showstoppers. Stories and emotions unfold and beauty comes in every form. Burlesque is my happy space.

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
I love trying out all types of dance classes (which inspire future numbers), exploring new places (I’m an avid scuba diver), and spending downtime pussy power hours cuddling with my two favorite felines, Bagel and Jojo. And during football season, you can find me every weekend at Daddy-O’s cheering on my Steelers!

Who is your dream Valentine?
Channing Tatum, please.

Candy is one of the badass beauties set to warm up your weekend next Saturday at The Triad. Hurry and get your tickets before they sell out!

How long have you been burlesquing? Four years

What drew you/draws you to burlesque?
I have always been curious about burlesque, but I didn’t look for information because I was sure I would lose my mind for it… I could just feel it! During my honeymoon, on our way to Bangkok I decided to watch the movie Burlesque. I know that this movie doesn’t show the reality of burlesque, but in that moment I was fascinated and enchanted by the sparkling costumes and the magic of the stage. We were landing just as the movie finished and I looked at my husband and said, “When we get back home, I will do this.” That is how it started for me.

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
I work as a receptionist in a 50s/60s-style Party Hostel in Rimini, Italy.

Who is your dream Valentine?
My dream Valentine is in Italy: my husband Alberto. But if I could choose a second Valentine, it would be my audience!

Come see Freaky and a host of hotties at The Triad on Saturday, February 13. Tickets available here.

We can’t wait to see you!

How long have you been burlesquing?
3 years

What drew/draws you to burlesque?
I’ve always been the reserved one, content to fly under the radar. At the same time, I had a secret side that wanted to be in the spotlight. A Groupon led me to The Pink Chardonnays, and they got me onstage. I eventually built up the courage to perform a solo and it was exhilarating. Burlesque has helped me in other areas, too. I may not be ready to audition for a reality show, but I’m not hiding in the shadows anymore.

HellK_Betty

Who or what would you say are your burlesque influences?
I’m obsessed with the 1960s so I like to think of my burlesque persona as if Betty Draper from Mad Men had run away to become a go-go dancer in L.A.

What kind of femme fatale are you and why?
Definitely an old-school Bond girl! A sex kitten who kicks ass, takes names, and doesn’t mind getting a little blood on her boots.

What does it mean to be badass?
To have the courage to be authentic on the stage, on the page and in real life. (I am still working on this.)

Besides performer, what would you say is your role as part of the FF?
Writer, editor, designer, website maintainer.

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
I work in cable news as a writer. I’m also a freelance writer and blogger. In my free time, I watch a lot of Red Sox baseball, drink a lot of wine and take as many vacations as I can.

What would you like to get out of this endeavor (the Femmes Fatales)?
I love that all of us are using our individual talents to come together and create something awesome that wasn’t there before. I want to grow as a performer, a writer and as a person. I would also like to be able to give something back. Everyone should have the opportunity to shine on stage!

What drew/draws you to burlesque?
Burlesque is one of the only dance styles I’ve found that encourages you to be comfortable in your own skin and at peace with your body, and enables your own unique traits to shine through everything you do. It’s about the tease, the thrill of the chase, rather than the grand finale or final curtain drop.

What does it mean to be badass?
The ability to not feel obligated to filter who you are.

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
I’m in a committed relationship with chocolate pastries; I just love to eat. I also enjoy distance running, reading, drawing, sewing, and venturing around Manhattan. The big city is strangely relaxing to me.

Anything you’d like to add?
I hope this new experience will help me tear down my walls of anxiety and inhibitions and help me become a more confident, fearless person in the future.

Aradia

Name: Aradia

Hometown: Minnesota

What drew/draws you to burlesque?
I enjoy dance and wanted to learn a form where I own my sexuality.

What does it mean to be badass?
Badass means doing things because you want to do them despite criticism.

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
When I am not burlesquing, I balance many roles- I am a creative arts therapist, a yoga instructor, Tarot reader, and sex educator. I also love to play in the park with my Dingo-dog, and my boyfriend.

Anything you’d like to add?
I am very grateful to be part of this show.

Luna

Name: Luna Rapture

Hometown: New York

What drew/draws you to burlesque?
Burlesque is a creative outlet that encourages expressing who you are and being comfortable with your body. It’s beautiful, empowering, and freaking fun as hell.

What does it mean to be badass?
It’s someone who carves their own path, lives life how they choose, regardless of the social norms expected of them.

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
I’m a dentist, which is a pretty demanding job… But when I don’t have my hand in people’s mouths, I spend my time watching all types of live music, playing the bass, cooking, reading, and exploring the city.

Anything you’d like to add?
This has been an amazing experience to say the least, and I’m grateful to be a part of it.

Come meet Iren Ayran, Aradia, Luna Rapture and the rest of the ladies at Les Femmes Fatales Give Thanks – our debut show – November 20 @ 9 PM, Triad Theater, 158 W. 72 St. 212.362.2590
