irenName: Iren Ayran

Hometown: Brooklyn, NY

What drew/draws you to burlesque?
Burlesque is one of the only dance styles I’ve found that encourages you to be comfortable in your own skin and at peace with your body, and enables your own unique traits to shine through everything you do. It’s about the tease, the thrill of the chase, rather than the grand finale or final curtain drop.

What does it mean to be badass?
The ability to not feel obligated to filter who you are.

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
I’m in a committed relationship with chocolate pastries; I just love to eat. I also enjoy distance running, reading, drawing, sewing, and venturing around Manhattan. The big city is strangely relaxing to me.

Anything you’d like to add?
I hope this new experience will help me tear down my walls of anxiety and inhibitions and help me become a more confident, fearless person in the future.

Aradia

Name: Aradia

Hometown: Minnesota

What drew/draws you to burlesque?
I enjoy dance and wanted to learn a form where I own my sexuality.

What does it mean to be badass?
Badass means doing things because you want to do them despite criticism.

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
When I am not burlesquing, I balance many roles- I am a creative arts therapist, a yoga instructor, Tarot reader, and sex educator. I also love to play in the park with my Dingo-dog, and my boyfriend.

Anything you’d like to add?
I am very grateful to be part of this show.

Luna

Name: Luna Rapture

Hometown: New York

What drew/draws you to burlesque?
Burlesque is a creative outlet that encourages expressing who you are and being comfortable with your body. It’s beautiful, empowering, and freaking fun as hell.

What does it mean to be badass?
It’s someone who carves their own path, lives life how they choose, regardless of the social norms expected of them.

What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
I’m a dentist, which is a pretty demanding job… But when I don’t have my hand in people’s mouths, I spend my time watching all types of live music, playing the bass, cooking, reading, and exploring the city.

Anything you’d like to add?
This has been an amazing experience to say the least, and I’m grateful to be a part of it.
