How long have you been burlesquing?
Almost 5 years
What drew/draws you to burlesque?
After my pole dancing instructor moved to Africa I was lost. I tried a burlesque class through Groupon and after the first show I was hooked. Now, all I crave is the stage. From the day of the show to the 3 minutes and 30 seconds to the final applause and gin & tonic after my performance.
Who or what would you say are your burlesque influences?
I’m definitely more classic with a little twist. I’m not really a neo fan. I want to wear a beautiful sparkly costume, I want to tease. I want to dance, use the beat of the music but most of all, I want a grand finale.
What kind of Femme Fatale are you and why?
Ruby is definitely a badass, the way she comes out with all her attitude and bold personality. I’m the same in real life but I have to deal with people, so I have to tame her.
What does it mean to be badass?
Being real to yourself and the world, as much as possible; to not adapt to what society expects.
What is your behind the scenes role with FF?
We all make the magic happen, but my part is in production. Recruiting dancers and stage kittens, training virgins (what we call newbies), being the point of contact with the venue, as well as gathering assets. From songs to prop lists to stage set-up–there are hundreds of details to run a show. Luckily I’m a Virgo, details are my detail.
What do you do when you’re not burlesquing?
My 9 to 5 is as a sales manager for an Italian textile company. They produce bedding, towels and robes for high-end hotels and resorts and I work closely with designers, architects, hotel managers and purchasing directors.
What would you like to get out of this endeavor?
When your love for something grows this much, it’s a natural step to want to do more. Doing it with a group of women who have the same perspective? It’s perfect. It all comes down to doing what makes you happy. Being on stage, creating beautiful shows and inspiring other people–that’s what this journey is all about.
